History of the Blog

The date of the first actual blog is unknown. And in fact, many different times could be argued for. Was it when Justin Hall began his personal blog in 1994, or when Jorn Barger coined the word weblog, or did it officially begin in 1999 when Peter Merholz separated the word weblog into 'we blog'. This is difficult to discern because not only was the advance of blogging fast, but the individual communities slowly made the transition from websites with email capabilities to forums where bloggers could leave their comments on a metaphorical corkboard.
Nowadays blogs have a large political impact especially because they can change public opinion of stories. The public force that is blogging has caused the media to recognize it as a legitamite source of opinion.
